Consider This

Are you a scrupulous writer? I think the reason so many writers don't achieve their goals is that they lack natural talent, or they don't take the time to examine every paragraph, every sentence, every word. When people hear that I'm a writer, they often say something like, "Oh, I've always wanted to be a writer. I'm thinking of taking it up when I retire," as though it's a hobby like coloring. You know, something you do in your spare time just for fun. If only, right?

Only real writers know the agony, the exhaustion, the torture we put ourselves through to produce something worth reading. As Hemingway once said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." So, if you're going to bleed, make it worthwhile, spend that blood in the creation of compelling writing. Be scrupulous!
